Iron Horse Park

2024 Schedule.

Annual operating season from Victoria Day weekend to October Thanksgiving day weekend.

The Sunday of the "May Long" weekend marks the annual opening to the public of the next running season. Bring your family. Bring your friends. Come and experience an interpretive journey on the 1.6 km of track which is currently operational. Another 0.5 km of track was also recently completed and is occasionally available on public run days. This depends mostly on the availability of crews and volunteers.

We are open to the public every Sunday between 11:00AM and 4:00PM (LAST TRAIN LEAVES AT 3:45), weather permitting, until the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend in October. We are, 100%, a volunteer organization and as such, the park is, unfortunately, NOT open to the public on Saturdays or weekdays except for special events as detailed below or as announced on our main page.

Admission to the park is free. The cost of journeys is $3.00 each. Ticket Bundles of 8 for $20.00 are also available. We accept Visa, MasterCard and Debit cards at the register. Cash is still accepted as well. :-) Children 2 years of age and under ride for free but must be accompanied by an adult. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult or an older responsible person.

Also note that private events can be booked on Sundays. See the "Birthday/Events" tab above for details.

Our first Halloween Run / Airdrie FoodBank Fundraiser was held in 2016. We were graced with exceptionally good weather (almost 17C). We collected some 200 grocery bag equivalents, including $200 in donations.

In 2017, despite cold temperatures and very high winds, the event was even more successful. That day we hosted the second largest ridership attendance of the season. Attendees contributed 1,050 lbs of food (about 190 grocery bag equivalents valued at $2,700) PLUS $266 in donations.

In 2018, the weather cooperated and the event was the most succesful yet. That day we hosted the largest ever 1-day ridership. We collected 1,348 lbs of food valued at $3,505). We also donated our ticket sales (rounded up to an even $1,000) to the Lioness Club Christmas Hamper program.

In 2019, the weather was decent. We collected 625 lbs of food valued at $1,625 PLUS $146 in donations for The Airdrie Food Bank, Veterans support. We also donated our ticket sales (topped up to an even $1,000) to the Food for Thought, School Nutrition Community partnership, Airdrie. Funds were directed to Airdrie's Muriel Clayton Middle School "Clipper Caf" program where students in need have a safe and welcoming place to enjoy healthy and nutritious foods.

After a 2 year hyatus because of Covid, in 2022, we held our first Halloween Run, again in support of the Airdrie Food Bank. The weather cloudy, cold and windy. But we still collected 300 lbs of food valued at $ 963 We also donated our ticket sales for the day which was amounted to $ 406.

In 2023, we held our first "Bunny Run Day" in support of the Airdrie Food Bank. The weather cooperated. We collected 380 lbs of food valued at $1,211 We also donated our ticket sales for the day which was amounted to $1,061. Because of weather conditions, we were not able to have a Halloween run. However we still made a significant donation to the Airdrie Food Bank.

We are extremely grateful to all visitors who participated.

The Halloween events are always lots of fun with some pretty amazing costumes. It is always wonderful to see those happy smiling faces coming out for our last run of the year. We hope to continue this tradition going forwards where will be free journeys for people in costume or those bringing food bank donation.
